After tax time thank you email

Tax time is busy, but it’s also a great time to market your firm to clients who have come to you for help with taxes. You can take the opportunity to thank them for their business and then either market your additional services or request a referral, review or recommendation from them.

Here are four email templates that you can use to connect with your clients after tax time. You can use any of them as you need, based on your goals and the clients you’re working with.

Send them out after you’ve completed the client’s taxes–pick the best template based on your client and your firm’s needs.

Here’s where they’re most helpful:

Option A: Market your services

Use this for clients you’d like to upsell additional services to. For example, someone may have come in just at tax time, but you recognize they could use your financial planning services. This email gives you an opportunity to thank them for their business and let them know what else you do.

Option B: Ask for referrals

Use this for clients you have a decent relationship with and/or aren’t concerned about upselling to. Referrals are a great way to generate new business, and they speed up the sales process.

Option C: Ask for a Google Review

Use this when you’re looking to build social proof about the work you do and how you’ve helped clients.

Option D: Ask for a Facebook Review

Similar to option C, use this option when you’re looking to build social proof about the work you do and you want to show how you’ve helped your clients.

Read on for more information about how to use each of the email templates we’ve included.

Option A: Market Your Services

Instructions

One of the most efficient and effective ways to boost your profits is to sell more to your existing clients. After all, they’ve already made the decision to work with you. They like your services, and you’ve had a chance to get to know them and determine other ways you can help them.

Use this template to reach out to clients who have come to you for tax help, but who you feel could benefit from additional services. This email will get them thinking about their finances, and about how you can help them.

Before sending this email, please make sure to do the following:

  • Replace all text in red font with your firm’s information
  • Replace the red font with black font
  • Replace the bullet list of services with details about the services you offer
  • Make sure your logo and signature appear in the email
  • Revise any content to ensure it reflects your firm

Option B: Ask for referrals

Instructions

Referrals are one of the best ways to generate new business. After all, sales that start with a referral tend to move through your sales process more quickly because they start with built-in trust. You’ve been recommended by someone they trust, which means they’re predisposed to working with you.

Referrals are warm leads that require very little financial investment. All you need to do is know how to ask your clients for referrals.

Use this template to ask clients you’ve built a relationship with to refer others to you. Send this email individually and make it personal–include the recipient’s name.

Before sending this email to your contacts, please make sure to do the following:

  • Replace all text in red font with your firm’s information
  • Replace the red font with black font
  • Replace the bullet list of characteristics with details about your ideal clients
  • Make sure your logo and signature appear in the email
  • Revise any content to ensure it reflects your firm

Option C: Ask for a Google review

Instructions

Many people now turn to online reviews to help them make important business decisions. As such, having positive Google reviews can do a lot to boost your business. Positive Google reviews increase your credibility, enable you to be better ranked in local searches, enhance your online reputation and market you without you having to spend money.

It helps you to have your best and trusted clients leave a positive review about the process of working with you.

**Note that you must have a Google Business Profile to enable Google reviews. Check out this Playbook lesson for more information on how to enable this and the benefits that come with it.

Use this template to ask clients to write a Google review for your business. Send this email individually and be sure to include the recipient’s name.

If you aren’t sure how to create a link for Google reviews, read more information here. Once you’ve created a link, you can add it to other materials, such as your website, in your email signature line and even on your invoices to encourage people to write reviews.

Before sending this email to your contacts, please make sure to do the following:

  • Replace all text in red font with your firm’s information
  • Change red/bold font to black font
  • Include a link to your Google page listing in paragraph 3
  • Make sure your logo and signature appear in the email
  • Revise any content to ensure it reflects your firm

Google has become really important for how we continue to grow your firm name. I’d really appreciate it if you’d take a couple of minutes to leave us a rating on Google. Adding a couple of sentences of feedback would be an added bonus!

Here’s a link to our page on Google listing and here are Google’s instructions on how to leave feedback. But feel free to email or call me if you have any questions.

Here’s an example to give you an idea something to write:

Please let me know if you have any questions. And of course, if you have any further accounting or bookkeeping needs please feel free to reach out. We’d love to help you.

Option D: Ask for a Facebook recommendation

Instructions

Referrals are a fantastic way to generate new business, and these days many people are turning to social media such as Facebook for referrals and recommendations. Having good Facebook recommendations gives you credibility and builds confidence and trust with prospects.

**Note that before you can obtain Facebook recommendations you must have your Facebook business page where people can leave their reviews.

Use this template to ask clients you’ve built a relationship with to leave a Facebook recommendation for you. Send this email individually, not as part of a mass email campaign, and make it personal. Include the recipient’s name and indicate how long you’ve worked together.

Before sending this email to your contacts, please make sure to do the following:

  1. Replace all text in bold/red font with your firm’s information
  2. Replace the bold/red text with unbold/black text
  3. Insert a link to your Facebook page in the third paragraph
  4. Make sure your logo and signature appear in the email
  5. Revise any content to ensure it reflects your firm.
